This is the result of an initiative by the City of London to rebuild the area, devastated in the Second World War. The need for housing and the lack of space led to the design of a large residential complex, in which shops, a youth hostel, educational, sports, cultural and leisure programmes are included.

The project for this mixed-use tower block came to rebuild an urban space destroyed by the 1943 bombing. The town planning regulations of the time foresaw a low-rise building, occupying the whole plot and dedicated to offices.

The Lighthouse project is the first project in the large transformation of the Aarhus north harbour. It offers a hotel/wellness centre, apartment buildings and an apartment tower, all on a peninsula surrounded by water, plus a new harbour promenade with evening sun and public access to the tower’s top-floor skybar with unique views of the Aarhus Bay.

Chicago’s chain of parks and boulevards is part of an infrastructure constructed in the 19th century for creating green open space in neighbourhoods throughout the city. The wide-open spaces set up an opportunity for increased density and scale in the architecture along their edges. However, these edges have remained extremely underutilized in many neighbourhoods.
